Public Talk // Growing Design for a Fungal Future @Design Academy Eindhoven (NL)
Maurizio Montalti (design researcher at Design Academy Eindhoven, Lectorate Places and Traces) will offer a Design Research Lecture addressing one of the major challenges faced by this century: how our current economy can be transformed into an eco-friendly and self-sustaining system.
Design Academy Eindhoven (DAE) and its partners recently completed a three-year research project focusing on innovative strategies for cultivating 100% natural materials. This collaboration has explored the use of mycelium to grow designs for a fungal future.
Montalti will explain the importance of exploring the qualities and potential of zero footprint materials and the roles designers can play in developing them. He will demonstrate how he and his co-researchers at Utrecht University and TU Delft, have experimented with growing mycelium-based materials for product design.
