Commissioned work 2014
NASCO/STO
NASCO/STO is a walking stick for the emergent designer’s generation.
Apart from serving its most traditional tasks of supporting and aiding along the exploration of hostile environments, it functions as a vehicle for smuggling experimental practices and unknown sets of knowledge, together with the diffusion of a positive and essential virus, ready to infect the stillness of the present times: trans-disciplinarity.
Composed of different units, NASCO/STO hides in its core materials and tools useful to facilitate a paradigm shift beyond mere formal definition, but rather focusing on the materials, the production processes and the impact that characterises them.
The kit consists of:
1. Amplifier Horn – a tool facilitating the act of being listened to
2. Descriptive Manual
3. Loupe Magnifier – a tool for on deep analyses
4. Organic Cultures: fungal mycelium (decomposer) on different substrates
5. Inoculation Tools – to promote propagation
WARNING: The use of the content may cause desirable effects such as confidence in younger generations, collaboration and contamination between seemingly distant fields of application, as well as growth of critical thinking.
” …and there in the distance a young man comes with a walking stick, symbol of elderliness, wisdom and accomplished respect and support for trust and future growth…”
NASCO/STO is a project commissioned by MAXXI (Rome) for the exhibition “Design Destinations”
